Fokker DR.1 ^Triplane ̄(9004)
Fokker Dr.I 425/17 was the final mount of Manfred,Baron von Richtofen (the Red Baron).the top-scoring German ace of World War I with 81 kills, and probably the most famous fighter pllot of all time.In fact.Richtofen scored the majority of his kills in other aircraft such as the Albatros D.III.By the time the rotary-engined Dr.I was introduced into service in October 1917.although undoubtedly a supremely manoeuvrable fighter it was being outclassed by a new generation of fighting scouts and offered only mediocre performance due to the high drag of its triplane wing structure. Its construction was relatively simple, and when coupled with a skilled pilot it had the measure of many more powerful machines in a dogfight. However, speed and range were poor by 1917 standards, and Fokker expressed some surprise that the Dreidecker received such accolades.
